Robbins’ host Scandal Premiere…with a twist! Event promotes Breast Cancer awareness & healthy living

Minneapolis, MN- If you’re not familiar with the hit TV series, Scandal, you’ve been living under a rock! Scandal is arguably one of the hottest shows on network television, keeping millions of viewers glued to the tube every Thursday night!

The Robbins Urban Wellness Retreat, in partnership with the University of Minnesota’s Program in Health Disparities Research (PHDR) are coming together to host the Scandal Season Premiere Party: The Pinked Out Edition!  In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the event coincides with the season premiere of the hit TV program, set to air Thursday, October 3rd at 9pm CST on the ABC network (Channel 5). The goal is to heighten awareness around breast and other types of cancers impacting the community, while celebrating those who are surviving it.

“Twin Cities’ Scandal fans are beyond excited about this event!” Says Anika Robbins, the event’s producer. “The opportunity to engage with an intelligent group of men and women around a show we absolutely love, while being empowered by opportunities to lead healthier lives is…priceless!”

The event promises to pull all the stops: a mini runway show, delicious treats, special product giveaways and more! Not to mention…it’s FREE! Scandal features acclaimed actress, Kerry Washington, who portrays a Washington DC-based public relations ‘fixer’, Olivia Pope, who leads a motley cast of characters in a series of political intrigues, steamy romance and strategic problem solving adventures…leading right up to the highest office of the nation. Loosely based on the real-life story of crisis management guru, Judy Smith, the ABC network drama series has drawn the ire of critics and inspiration of women nationwide.

The Scandal Season premiere ‘Pinked Out’ event will also highlight the work of an energetic group of breast cancer survivors here in the Twin Cities’, The African American Breast Cancer Alliance (AABCA).  Through their tireless efforts, they’ve heightened awareness and increased access to resources for African-Americans who’ve experienced breast and other forms of cancer.  The runway presentation, ‘Finding Beauty in the Change’, is produced in partnership with the group and will feature cutting-edge styling solutions for women of all complexions, shapes and sizes-with a few options for breast cancer survivors and women who’ve experienced hair loss and/or mastectomies.

“We want women to know they have options as they embrace the different changes they may experience as a result of chemo-therapy, surgeries, etc”, says Reona Berry, Executive Director for AABCA. “We want them to know they are still beautiful, despite the change”.

The program will begin at 7pm with networking, personal beauty consultations and an opportunity to connect with PHDR representatives who will be on hand to answer questions about-all types of cancers-including breast, cervical and prostate cancers. The runway presentation will begin at 8pm with a 30 minute intermission leading up to the season premiere screening at 9pm CST.

The Scandal Season Premiere Party: The Pinked Out Edition is Thursday October 3rd at 7pm at the Robbins Urban Wellness Retreat located at 3900 Thomas Avenue North in Minneapolis. The event is free, open to the public including men and women. For more information call 612. 670.6355.
